NUESTRA HISTORIA

In August 2000, a group of volunteers travelled to the mission founded by Father Sinesio.

And on their return, being now aware of the situation in Zambia, they decided to found an NGO in order to keep cooperating with the neediest in the country. This is how HUMI was born – a non-profit NGO registered and approved in May 2002 by the Spanish Ministry of the Interior with registration no. 169236.

Why an elephant as logo?

  • The elephant represents Africa, with its mood swings and its mystery.

  • A continent full of surprises, beauty and opportunities.

  • These animals are as interesting as intimidating, but in spite of their power they have a halo of kindness around them.

An archetypal endangered animal, the elephant evokes emotions and feelings around the world, even in people who have never seen an elephant in its natural habitat.

Written without an H, HUMI means 'life' in BEMBA (native language).

  FATHER SINESIO’S BIOGRAPHY

  • Born in MATALLANA DE VALMADRIGAL, León, Spain, on 21 May 1937.

  • Profession: he belongs to the BROTHERHOOD OF DIOCESAN LABOURER PRIESTS.

  • He was ordained a priest in 1961.

  • 1964: he left for UGANDA with Fr Isidre Foguet Magriñá (also a diocesan labourer) towards the PALABEK KAL Mission, diocese of Gulu.

  • January 1967: Fr Sinesio and Fr Isidro, as well as another twelve Italian Combonian fathers, were expelled from Uganda – for political reasons!

  • October 1967: Fr Sinesio returned to ZAMBIA, to the diocese of NDOLA, where he has remained until this day.

  • He lives in the MISHIKISHI MISSION, P.O. BOX 250073, NDOLA, ZAMBIA.

  • In this mission, located in a rural area, he works within the BROTHERHOOD with Fr Séraphin KAZADI, Congo, Brother Felipe FLORES, Mexico, and SISTERS DISCIPLES OF JESUS, for the human and social (integral) promotion of the African people and pastoral life, attending to 42 centres of prayer (chapels) scattered across the forest.
